Murphy’s law: Anything that can go wrong, does……….

It was the first day of school for my little DD. This was also her first bus ride without me or dad by her side. She was excited and apprehensive all at the same time. We had all the information about the school bus that was going to pick her and drop off. A week back, the bus driver had come to introduce himself. Having all the information and preparation done for the important day, I was expecting it to go well.

I got up early that day. Made breakfast for everyone and then packed lunch for my little one and me. Getting my little one ready was easy. She was excited and couldn’t wait to make new friends at school. I was excited too. Not just for my little DD’s important day, but also for a very important meeting I had later that day. I had prepared for it well last week. My manager wanted to make some changes in the presentation and has asked me to come meet him. But I was not worried at all since I had plenty of time prior to the meeting to make changes to the presentation.
It was nice and sunny weather since morning but suddenly it had started drizzling. I was hoping it will stop by the time we have to go to the bus stop. There were still 20 minutes before the scheduled pickup time. We were asked to get to the bus stop 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled pick up time. So, I hurried my DD to get going. But in that moment she decided to use the restroom. She took about 10 minutes to be ready to go again. I checked my watch and we still had 10 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. We got to the bus stop and found to be the only one there. We patiently waited for about 15 minutes, thinking, it would have been nice if there was a bench to sit on. Then some more time passed with no sign of the bus. It’s been already 15 minutes past the scheduled bus time. At that time, I was not sure, we missed the bus or the bus is late. So I decided to call the school. After some voice prompt and routing of the call, I was connected to the transportation department, only to hear the pre-recorded message that said If you are still waiting for the bus, then it must be running late. Please be patient and wait. It will arrive”.  The bus did eventually arrive, but 25 minutes late. By then, I was already late for work. What happened next at work is a story for another day…
Had I known where the bus was and what is the expected time of arrival, we could have waited for the bus from the comfort of our home. With the peace of mind, I could have focused on preparing for my meeting at work. I could have talked to my manager on phone and even started editing my presentation. Sigh!
